Penguin Island

Penguin Island, off the coast of Rockingham, is closed to visitors this time of the year to let the penguins breed without too much disturbance.

These photos were taken during three different visits to the island over the last two years.

Looking on to the Penguin Island from the Mersey Point jetty, Rockingham

The Mersey Point jetty

Sign near the jetty

Seaweed in the Penguin Island waters; the green ones are sea lettuce (Ulva sp.)

Silver gulls on the island

Little blue periwinkles (Nodilittorina unifasciata) (Photo also found here)

This must be around the west side of the island, where the waves are bigger.

Rocky shore covered in seaweeds

Some sea lions and pelicans on the nearby Seal Island

Great view of the sea lions.

It would have been nicer if I could get closer to them. I took the photo from a ferry.
